This international conference has been convened by the English Association to enable all those with a serious academic or non-specialist interest in war poetry to come together at the start of the Great War Centenary to listen to leading speakers and to exchange views about this body of literature, so appealing and yet still so controversial.<\/p>\n
Keynote lecture: Professor Edna Longley – “…the compact essential real truth” What is a war poem?
\nKeynote lecture: Professor Jay Winter – Beyond glory: English war poets and the legacy of the Great War
\nConcert recital: Roderick Williams, baritone and Gary Matthewman, piano, – includes music by Ireland, Finzi, Vaughan Williams and Gurney.
\nConference dinner: guest of honour Professor Jon Stallworthy<\/p>\n
The conference will include lectures, panel sessions, chaired discussions, exhibitions and recitals, all taking place in the magnificent setting of Wadham College, within eary wakling distance of the historic centre of Oxford. Delegates will have the option of staying in the College or making their own arrangements.<\/p>\n
