Educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, Patrick Shaw Stewart was an intellectual star: he was elected a fellow of All Souls College and entered as a student of the Inner Temple but then accepted a job with Barings Bank, becoming managing director at the age of 24. He was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in the RNVR in September 1914, joining the Hood Battalion in November. He sailed to the Dardanelles with Rupert Brooke and was part of the burial party for Brooke on 23 April 1915. Having survived the Gallipoli campaign he rejoined the Hood Battalion in France in May 1917. He was killed near Cambrai\u00a0on 30 December 1917.<\/p>\n
