John Buquoi was trained as a Vietnamese linguist and spent seven years from 1963-1970 in Vietnam in the military and as a civilian. He first began writing about events from his time in Vietnam some fifty years after he arrived in that country. After the fall of Vietnam he was involved in resettlement of the first Vietnamese refugees to arrive in New Mexico. His wife is Vietnamese and his oldest son was born in Saigon.<\/p>\n
In 2015 he published snapshots from the edge of a war<\/a><\/em>, a volume of retrospective poems which echo that experience in a series of reflective narrative vignettes which one critic has called “first-rate in every respect, resonating on all levels–emotional, personal, factual, historical, literary\u201d A recent review by Chris Fischer for Reader’s Favorites described the work as \u201ca beautiful and emotional work of poetry…simply a collection of perfection…highly recommend\u20265 stars” You can read an online review of snapshots from the edge of war<\/em> in the VVA Veteran<\/a> magazine.<\/p>\n His work has been published on VietnamFullDisclosure.org<\/a><\/em> , VietnamWarPoetry.com<\/a> and accepted for publication in the upcoming edition of the literary journal, War, Literature & the Arts<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n He retired after years of working in a variety of professions and occupations from labour relations to owning a gold mine to technology. He then devoted his time to his family and writing poetry and a memoir of his time in Vietnam.
