Doug Anderson grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and in 1967 served as a navy corpsman attached to the Marines in the Vietnam War. After the war he studied acting at the University of Arizona. He began writing poetry after he moved to Northampton, Massachusetts where he worked with the poet Jack Gilbert.<\/p>\n
Anderson has written about his experiences in Vietnam in both poetry and non-fiction. His poetry collection The Moon Reflected Fire<\/em> (1994) won the 1995 Kate Tufts Discovery Award.
