An English poet, short-story writer, and novelist chiefly remembered for his celebration of British imperialism, tales and poems of British soldiers in India, and his tales for children, Kipling received the 1907 Nobel Prize for Literature. At the beginning of the First World War he wrote a number of pamphlets and poems supporting the aims of the war and actively encouraged his young son, John, to join up. John was killed, aged 18, in September 1915 during the Battle of Loos: last seen stumbling through the mud screaming in agony, his body was not found during Kipling’s lifetime.<\/p>\n
