He\u00a0worked for the War Propaganda Bureau after the outbreak of the First World War.<\/p>\n<p>After writing two propaganda books he enlisted, at the age of 41, in the Welch Regiment on 30 July 1915 and was sent to France. His combat experiences inspired his tegralogy <em>Parade&#8217;s End<\/em>, set in England and on the Western Front before, during and after the First World War.<\/p>\n<p>During the Battle of the Somme in 1916 Ford was shell-shocked and was invalided home in 1917.<\/p>\n<p>He also wrote poetry: his poem <em>Antwerp<\/em> (1915) was praised by T.S.
